In addition, the Department of Employment and Labour is on the verge of employing 500 new occupational health and safety (OHS) inspectors. This controversial move is going to damage the many businesses who lack adequate OHS systems and compliance records.
Department’s Chief Inspector, Tibor Szana has stated:
“In the next 10 years health and hygiene will never be the same. We are clear what we are about to do. When we look back this will be a major turning point. We will be leveraging on the use of technologies to fulfil our objectives”
The expectation is that these new inspectors will allow the department to increase the number of surprise inspections and broaden the scope of their work. Industries and businesses that were previously ignored will now be targeted. Make sure your business is professionally protected.
