04/07/2020The July amendments to OHS COVID Regulations include the topic of vaccinations and the necessity for companies to decide on if vaccinations are mandatory for the workforce or not. Should companies decide yes or no it is to be included in the companies Covid-19 Workplace OHS Plan and reference that a risk assessment was performed leading to the decision.
A workforce free of Covid-19 severe symptoms is the most positive production direction forward. Imagine a work environment where isolation is no longer a requirement, virus transmissions is no longer severe health threat and business can move forward and grow.
Key Points required on a Mandatory option:
- It is the employer’s responsibility to allow for time for the vaccination
- It is the employer’s responsibility to allow for transport options to vaccination sites
- Paid time is to be allowed should side effects be to the extent requiring so.
- Allow for employees who refuse vaccination to consult with health and safety and labour representatives
Key Points required on a voluntary option:
- Workplace transmission risks need to be assessed, monitored and maintained.
- Isolation of employees presenting symptoms need to be enforced.
- Assessments of causes of infection need to be investigated and mitigated
